About

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists Bay Area (NAHJ Bay Area) is a chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. We are a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to the recognition and professional advancement of Latin@s in the news industry. Our members are journalists, students, educators, and communications professionals who advocate for media coverage that is fair and inclusive of Latinos. Established in April 1984, NAHJ created a national voice and unified vision for all Latino journalists.

Formed in 2013, NAHJ Bay Area serves members in the San Francisco Bay Area, including the Silicon Valley and Oakland. Our chapter aspires to create intellectual diversity in newsrooms for the purpose of publishing well-rounded coverage all over the world. We host networking events, professional development workshops, and provide scholarships to those who embody our organization’s values. Our members uphold the pursuit of truth, cultural sensitivity, and clear communication.

We believe that newsrooms should employ people who are representative of the populations they cover. Diversity is not just about skin color; it is about connecting with people who share a different view of history. Our members bridge cultures to bring people information they need to make informed decisions that evolve our global society. One of our goals is to showcase work that exemplifies our values and paints an accurate picture of our culture. If you have a story that we should showcase or you want to donate to our scholarship fund, reach out to us.
